I went to the Charlotte Literary Festival at the convention center yesterday. [link] It wasn't quite what I expected, but it was worth it to meet Terry Brooks. He's the author of the Shannara series and one of my favorite authors. He came onstage and spoke for about 20 minutes, then entertained questions from the fans. I was lucky enough to be one of the fans to speak with him at that point and was even able to chat briefly with him later on when I got my copy of his first book, The Sword of Shannara, signed. All in all, it was a great day.

I understand the sentiment behind this portrait all too well. My Grandfather has Alzheimer's and has deteriorated rapidly in the past few years. In just 2-3 years he went from being somewhat absentminded to not recognizing his son (my father) or me. I've heard mention of treatments in development that can supposedly slow the deterioration, but that does little to help those already suffering. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
